Hi all, a wee update as I have been away from Substack for a couple weeks.
I have been swamped with preparing for the wellness event I hosted last weekend in Seattle, and now am trying to move through some post-event blues and the come down of so much build up.
Often times after events or projects that require deep focus and preparation I have a period of low mood and energy.
This, I know now, is normal. My nervous system was on high drive for two weeks straight, and then my entire being was emotionally and socially ON for 6 hours straight.
Top that with a highly charged positive engagement between a group of humans, and you’ve got a recipe for anything that follows to feel dull.
I am also trying to navigate some anxiety and heavy feelings of loneliness that are arising this week.
Finally, I am ready for partnership and love (yay, we weren’t sure we’d get here y’all). And, as I told my mom on the phone, now that I want a partner, I feel its absence ten fold.
One of the reasons I chose this line of work is so that in periods like this when my mental health needs my attention, I can pause and provide it with the tenderness it needs.
I also recognize that it’s a privilege to be able to make that choice, and wish we could all take days to hold ourselves gently and recalibrate as needed.
If you’re feeling extra tender too, know that you’re most certainly not the only one. It’s taken me years to get to a place where I can comfort myself and say “this will pass,” but I still struggle to remember it’s not just a “me thing.”
I’m eternally grateful that you’re middling with me, and that in times when it all feels too messy, I’m not alone in the room.
I have some pieces on the shelf I’ve been slowly crafting to share with you shortly—one will cover the documentary screening I spoke at in SLC (the film was about suicide survivors and is a must watch).
Additionally, if you added your name to be on my podcast, thank you for your submission! I will be sending out notes to schedule in the coming weeks.
Wishing you (as the lovely
says) “a day.” And know I’m thinking of you, your wellbeing, and the gratitude I have for you being here. All my messy love,
XX
Rachel
